Hosszúpályi is a prominent large village in Hajdú-Bihar County, situated roughly 18 kilometers southeast of Debrecen, with a history spanning over eight centuries. Its first written record dates back to 1219 in the 'Regestrum Varadinense,' highlighting its early role within the landholdings of the Diocese of Várad. Throughout the medieval and early modern periods, the village was owned by several noble dynasties, but it was the Zichy family in the 19th century who left the most lasting impact on its development and architecture. The Zichy mansion, set within its extensive parkland, remains a key historical monument and a reminder of the village's past as a significant manorial estate center. Geographically, the area is influenced by the 'Erdőspuszták' forested steppes, featuring sandy soil formations and planted woods that provide a unique landscape diversity compared to the flat plains. Agriculture continues to be the primary economic driver, with a focus on crop production and livestock farming. Due to its proximity to the regional capital, Debrecen, Hosszúpályi has recently evolved into an attractive residential location for commuters, effectively combining suburban convenience with a well-preserved rural atmosphere.
