Getting there
The main access point is typically reached via minibus starting from the nearby Tsuen Wan MTR station. A short walk from the minibus terminus brings you directly to the scenic reservoir trails.
Best season
Visit during the drier, cooler months between November and April for the most pleasant walking experience. After heavy summer rains, the water levels rise and submerge the roots of the famous trees.
Terrain & paths
The primary loop path is wide, largely flat, and consists of paved roads mixed with well-trodden dirt tracks. It is highly accessible for all ages, making it a well-suited spot for leisurely nature walks.
What to bring
Ordinary walking shoes or sneakers are perfectly adequate for the flat terrain around the reservoir. Ensure you bring mosquito repellent and keep your belongings concealed in a sturdy backpack.
Parking
A dedicated parking lot exists near the entrance, but it is heavily utilized during weekends and public holidays. Opting for public transport is generally the most stress-free way to arrive.
Safety
Wild monkeys roam freely; it is strictly prohibited and dangerous to feed them or flash food items. Stay on the designated loop road, as wandering into the dense woods can disorient even experienced hikers.
Time needed
Completing the full loop around the reservoir usually demands about two to three hours at a comfortable pace. Allow extra time if you plan to stop frequently for wildlife photography or resting.
