Getting there
Minibuses frequently travel from Tsuen Wan station directly to the main entrance of the country park. From there, well-marked paved roads and forest trails lead straight into the nature area.
Best season
Late autumn through spring provides the most comfortable climate for exploring the extensive trails. The striking paperbark trees look particularly dramatic when the water levels fluctuate during these months.
Terrain & paths
The main reservoir walk consists of mostly flat, paved roads and easy dirt paths suitable for families. Deeper trails venturing up the surrounding hills feature rocky steps and moderate inclines.
What to bring
Basic walking shoes are generally sufficient for the main reservoir loop. Bring standard sun protection, insect repellent, and enough water, but firmly secure your snacks out of sight from wildlife.
Parking
There is a small parking area near the visitor centre, which is highly competitive on public holidays. Many prefer taking the convenient minibus to avoid the stress of finding a parking spot.
Safety
Macaque monkeys are common here; never feed them, look them in the eyes, or hold plastic bags, as they can become aggressive. Stick to the marked trails to avoid getting lost in the dense vegetation.
Time needed
Walking the entire main reservoir loop usually takes roughly three hours at a relaxed, leisurely pace. Exploring the surrounding side trails can easily extend your visit to a full day.
