Sauteurs is a historic town perched on the northern tip of Grenada and serves as the capital of Saint Patrick Parish. Its name is derived from the French word for 'Leapers,' a reference to the tragic events of 1651 when the last remaining Carib Indians jumped to their deaths from a 40-meter cliff to escape surrender to French colonial forces. This site, now known as 'Leapers Hill' or Morne des Sauteurs, stands as a solemn memorial to indigenous resistance and provides some of the most spectacular coastal views in the country, looking out toward the Grenadine islands. The town itself is a peaceful fishing community that has retained much of its traditional Caribbean character, offering a contrast to the busier tourist zones in the south. Notable landmarks include the historic St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, which provides an excellent vantage point over the coastline. Visitors to Sauteurs can enjoy a slower pace of life, explore local markets, and reflect on the island's complex colonial past while taking in the dramatic beauty of the rugged northern shores.
