Tiryns (Greece)

Weather…

The archaeological site of Tiryns is one of the most significant centers of the Mycenaean civilization and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999. Located on a limestone ridge in the Argolid plain, the fortress is best known for its massive Cyclopean walls, composed of limestone blocks weighing up to 13 tons each. According to ancient Greek mythology, these structures were so grand that only the one-eyed giants known as Cyclopes could have moved them into place. The city flourished during the Late Bronze Age, specifically between 1400 and 1200 BC, acting as a major administrative and military hub. At the summit of the citadel stood a magnificent palace with a large megaron, the foundations of which remain visible alongside remnants of intricate frescoes. Mentioned by Homer in his epics, Tiryns stands as an exceptional example of Bronze Age military architecture.
