Parnassus National Park is located in Central Greece and encompasses the Parnassus mountain range, which, at 2,457 meters, is among the highest in the country. Established in 1938, it is one of the oldest national parks in Greece. The area is world-renowned for its proximity to the ancient site of Delphi, situated on its slopes. Ecologically, the park is known for its dense forests of Cephalonian Fir and its rich alpine flora, including the rare Parnassus peony. The geological formation consists primarily of limestone and is characterized by deep gorges, caves, and karst phenomena. Mount Parnassus holds a central place in Greek mythology as the home of the Muses and Apollo. Today, the park is not only a paradise for hikers and mountaineers but also hosts the largest ski resorts in Greece. The diversity of ecosystems, ranging from Mediterranean macchia to snow-covered peaks, makes it one of the most significant protected areas in the Balkans. Conservation efforts aim to ensure the coexistence of tourism and sensitive alpine biodiversity.

Getting there
This highly accessible and beautifully scenic mountain range is most frequently approached by tourists from very popular resort towns like Arachova. Wide, very well-paved, and totally secure roads proudly guarantee a completely trouble-free journey.
Best season
The sprawling landscapes are truly, breathtakingly beautiful during both spring and autumn. In stark winter, however, the whole region rapidly mutates into an absolute hotspot for skiing, which severely means hiking trails are deeply snow-covered.
Terrain & paths
The immediate environment proudly reveals an astonishingly diverse structure ranging gracefully from incredibly dense, profoundly dark fir forests and steep alpine-like slopes to excellently well-trodden, highly secure paths in lower areas.
What to bring
Robust, undeniably high-quality hiking boots are strictly, uncompromisingly mandatory. Even in summer, warming clothing layers, alongside the absolutely standard, completely typical mountain trekking equipment, must be carried for safety reasons.
Parking
Sufficiently large, exceptionally comfortable parking areas are usually, entirely effortlessly, and completely stress-freely found closely located at the popular ski centers or within the numerous, remarkably photogenic nearby mountain resort towns.
Safety
In the bitter cold winter season, you must strictly and meticulously check local snow conditions. Conversely, in summer, you should remain extremely and sharply focused on watching for potentially highly dangerous loose rocks on steep sections.
Time needed
The vast spectrum effectively ranges from very short, remarkably restorative forest walks lasting merely a few hours, to highly demanding, deeply physically taxing alpine traverses that can absolutely and effortlessly consume a full, entire day.
