Arkesini is located in the southwestern part of Amorgos, in the region known as 'Kato Meria.' The village is one of the island's oldest settlements, serving as one of the three ancient city-states of Amorgos in antiquity. Remnants of the ancient city and the impressive Hellenistic tower of Agia Triada testify to its historical significance. The village maintains a welcoming Cycladic character with whitewashed houses, blue shutters, and narrow alleys adorned with bougainvillea. It is a place where time seems to slow down, offering an authentic experience of Greek island life away from the main tourist paths. The beaches surrounding Arkesini are prized for their raw, natural beauty. Kato Kampos is a small, sheltered cove with fine pebbles and emerald waters, surrounded by a dramatic rocky landscape. Paradhisia beach, true to its name, has a paradisiacal escape with its tranquil atmosphere and lack of commercial development. These beaches are excellent for those who appreciate solitude and pristine nature. In the village's small tavernas, visitors can sample local specialties such as 'patatato,' a slow-cooked goat stew unique to Amorgos. Arkesini is a handy destination for history buffs and nature lovers seeking the untamed spirit of the Aegean.
