Tinos Town, the capital of Tinos island, serves as the religious heart of Greece and a major pilgrimage site for Orthodox Christians. The townscape is dominated by the magnificent Panagia Evangelistria Church, built in 1823 following the discovery of a sacred icon. A wide road featuring a red carpet for pilgrims leads directly from the harbor up to the temple. The town's architecture blends Cycladic simplicity with neoclassical elements, reflecting the wealth brought by pilgrimage and the marble trade. Tinos is world-renowned for its marble-carving tradition; artistic marble reliefs can be seen decorating doorways and windows throughout the town. Several museums near the church display sacred art and works by prominent local sculptors. During the feasts of the Annunciation and the Assumption, the town becomes the stage for impressive religious processions. Beyond its spiritual significance, Chora features a lively gastronomic scene that highlights local products such as cheeses and honey.
