💡 Tips
- The bay is divided into three parts (Katapola, Rachidi, Xylokeratidi); you can easily walk between them in a few minutes.
- The local bus to Chora and the Chozoviotissa Monastery is reliable but infrequent; check the printed timetable at the bus stop.
- Afternoon winds (Meltemi) can be very strong in mid-summer; secure your hats and beach gear when sitting outside.
- Katapola has several hiking trailheads; always start your hikes early in the morning to avoid the intense midday sun.

Katapola is the spirited heart of the Cycladic island of Amorgos. The town is divided into three sections, Katapola, Rachidi, and Xilokeratidi, arranged in a horseshoe shape around a naturally sheltered bay. Classic white-washed houses with blue windows, narrow alleys, and the laid-back Cycladic atmosphere define the area. In the evenings, the waterfront tavernas come alive, offering local wine and fresh seafood as the sun sets. Finikies beach is located nearby and is one of the more peaceful stretches of coastline in the area. It is known for its crystal-clear waters and fine pebbles, making it a well-suited escape from the bustle of the main port. The bay's calm waters also provide excellent conditions for snorkeling and exploring the diverse marine life in the Aegean. Katapola is rich in history, notably the ruins of Ancient Minoa situated on the hill overlooking the harbor, offering dramatic panoramic views. A network of ancient footpaths connects Katapola to other parts of the island, including the impressive village of Chora. Reaching the island involves a scenic ferry journey from Piraeus or other Cycladic islands.
