Apollonas is a highly characterful and secluded fishing village situated on the rugged northern tip of Naxos island in the Cyclades. Unlike the bustling western coast of the island, Apollonas provides a laid-back, authentic Greek island experience where time seems to stand still. The village is famously home to the Kouros of Apollonas, a colossal, unfinished ancient marble statue dating back to the 8th century BC, resting entirely in its original quarry just steps away from the main settlement. Along the waterfront, visitors will discover the pleasant beach of Μελινό (Melino). This beautiful, uncrowded stretch of shoreline features soft sand mixed with pebbles and is washed by the crystal-clear, refreshing waters of the Aegean Sea. The beach provides an idyllic setting for sunbathing, swimming, and simply relaxing away from the typical tourist crowds. Its protected cove often shields swimmers from the strong northern winds, ensuring a peaceful beach day. The village itself is lined with traditional white-washed houses and a handful of inviting waterfront tavernas. These family-run establishments serve exceptional, locally caught seafood, traditional Naxian cheeses, and fresh Greek salads while offering lovely views over the small harbor. Reaching Apollonas is an adventure in itself, requiring an impressive drive through the mountainous interior of Naxos, passing by ancient ruins, lush valleys, and traditional mountain villages.
