💡 Tips
- Orkos consists of several small, consecutive coves, walk a bit further along the coast to find your own private spot.
- The rocky formations between the coves are excellent for snorkeling as they attract a variety of fish and marine life.
- It is best to park at the northern end near Mikri Vigla and walk to the Orkos coves on foot.
- The beach is unorganized; make sure to bring water, snacks, and shade as there are no facilities directly on the sand.
- Check the wind forecast: during strong Meltemi (north wind), it can be very windy, which is great for windsurfers but less so for sunbathing.
🍽 Food
A staple in the tavernas of nearby Mikri Vigla, typically served with local olive oil and lemon.
Try the local version of the Greek salad using spicy Arseniko or creamy Mizithra cheese instead of feta.
Ask for the 'catch of the day' in beachside tavernas, sea bream and red mullet are common local favorites.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Visit the surf shops in Mikri Vigla for professional windsurfing and kitesurfing equipment and apparel.
Many local farmers sell their own wine in bulk containers, it's rustic, affordable, and very authentic.
The southernmost coves of Orkos are often nearly empty as they require a bit more walking to reach.
Find natural cooling and a great reading spot under the ancient cedar trees lining some of the coves.

Orkos is widely considered one of the most scenic and alluring coastal stretches on the island of Naxos. Rather than a single long expanse of sand, Orkos features a mesmerizing series of secluded, sandy coves positioned between striking red rocky outcrops. This unique topography creates an intimate and sheltered environment where the animated turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea gently lap against pristine, uncrowded shores, offering an atmosphere of profound tranquility and natural beauty. The area is perfectly positioned amidst some of the island's most famous coastal destinations. To the immediate south, the magnificent Mikri Vigla peninsula divides the coastline, offering world-class conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing on its northern side. Just below it lies Mikri Vigla Beach (South), a gorgeous sweep of white sand protected from the strong Meltemi winds, providing a calm, family-friendly oasis with crystal-clear waters excellent for swimming. To the north of the Orkos coves stretches the endless golden expanse of Kastraki Beach, known for its pristine beauty and tranquil ambiance. Whether you are exploring the secluded inlets of Orkos itself, riding the waves at Mikri Vigla, or taking a long, peaceful stroll along the shores of Kastraki, this region has a spectacularly diverse coastal experience. The combination of dramatic scenery, pristine waters, and Naxian hospitality makes Orkos unforgettable.
