Often referred to as the "City of Towers", Burg is situated just east of Magdeburg and features a documented history spanning over 1,050 years. The urban skyline is defined by imposing stone structures such as the 46-meter-tall Water Tower, the Witches' Tower (Hexenturm), and the Cow Tower (Kuhturm), all of which are remnants of the formidable medieval defensive walls. Walking along the Ihle river, visitors encounter carefully restored half-timbered houses and historic tanneries that once formed the economic backbone of the local community. A central focal point is the stone Roland statue on the market square, erected in 1581 as a symbol of the town's market rights and civic independence. Across Germany, the settlement is also famous for producing "Burger Knäcke", a traditional crispbread manufactured here for decades. Serving as the administrative center of the Jerichower Land district, it provides a highly practical base for extended cycling tours through the nearby Elbe floodplains or hikes into the surrounding pine forests, blending Prussian architectural heritage with a quiet rural atmosphere.
