Situated near the scenic foothills of the Teutoburg Forest, Versmold holds the proud culinary title of the “Sausage Kitchen of Westphalia” (Wurstküche Westfalens). This long-standing tradition of meat processing has fundamentally shaped the town’s history and culture, famously culminating in the huge annual St. Petri Market (also known as the “Sausage Market”), where locals and tourists gather to celebrate regional delicacies. Beyond its savory reputation, Versmold is characterized by a tranquil rural charm and lovely green surroundings. The soaring spire of the St. Petri Church dominates the town center, surrounded by beautifully maintained civic buildings and traditional houses. Nature lovers will find themselves drawn to the Peckeloh district, where a massive network of quarry ponds provides idyllic spots for swimming, fishing, and relaxed summer picnics. With its excellent network of flat cycling paths connecting to larger regional trails, Versmold provides an authentic, unhurried, and highly flavorful taste of East Westphalia that appeals to both active travelers and food enthusiasts.
