Nieheim is a pleasant town located in the heart of the Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia, positioned between the Teutoburg Forest and the Weser Uplands. The town has gained international fame for its culinary heritage, specifically the Nieheimer Cheese, a traditional sour milk cheese that is a protected regional specialty. Every two years, the town hosts the German Cheese Market, one of the country's most significant food festivals. Nieheim is also unique for its 'living' heritage: the art of hedge-weaving (Flechthecken), which is recognized as intangible cultural heritage. As a certified climatic health resort, it attracts visitors looking for wellness and clean air. The architecture of the old town features beautiful half-timbered buildings and a town hall in the Weser Renaissance style. Historically an agricultural center, modern Nieheim also relies on timber processing and furniture manufacturing. Its location near the Eggegebirge range makes it a popular starting point for hiking and exploring the diverse landscapes of Westphalia.
