Monheim am Rhein is a thriving city located at a scenic bend of the Rhine river, perfectly positioned between Cologne and Düsseldorf. In recent years, it has gained international fame for its radical economic strategy, drastically lowering business taxes to become a 'tax oasis' and a hub for chemical, pharmaceutical, and tech companies. The city's landmark is the Schelmenturm, a well-preserved 15th-century gate tower that once formed part of its medieval defenses. Monheim's identity is closely tied to the Gänseliesel (Goose Girl), a legendary figure found on the municipal coat of arms and celebrated with a modern fountain in the city center. Residents enjoy unique perks such as free public transport and highly developed digital services, reflecting its 'Smart City' ambitions. The Rhine promenade and the nearby Knipprather Forest provide vast green spaces for outdoor activities. With its mixture of historic half-timbered houses, cutting-edge business parks, and a lively cultural scene, Monheim is a prime example of a modern, prosperous German middle-sized city.
