On the first weekend in October, the blossom town of Leichlingen celebrates its fruit market, held over 125 times, with regional fruit from the Bergisches Land. There are market stalls, food and a festive programme in the centre.
The spring festival takes place on Mother's Day weekend in May at the Brückerfeld. With rides and festival activities it opens the spring season in the blossom town.
Set in the Bergisches Land region, Leichlingen rightfully holds the nickname "Blütenstadt" (Flower City) due to the extensive orchards and historic tree nurseries that shape its easy on the eye surroundings. The town is particularly enchanting in the spring when thousands of apple and cherry trees burst into bloom, transforming the landscape along the Wupper River into a fragrant, white-and-pink sea of petals that draws walkers and cyclists from all over the region. The historic charm of Leichlingen is best experienced during a stroll through its town center, where you can admire traditional half-timbered houses clad in dark slate, a highly distinctive architectural style of the area. Just outside the center lies the romantic Schloss Heiligenhoven, a classic moated manor house tucked away in a tranquil park. For outdoor enthusiasts, Leichlingen serves as a convenient basecamp. Trails like the well-known Wupperweg and winding paths through the Wupperschleife nature reserve provide fantastic elevated views over the densely wooded river valley. In autumn, the town enthusiastically celebrates its harvest season with the traditional Leichlingen Fruit Market, where local farmers proudly present freshly picked apples, artisanal juices, and homemade jams.
