Meinerzhagen is situated on a high plateau in the Märkisches Sauerland, at the western edge of the Ebbe Mountains. The town acts as a gateway to the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park, offering extensive opportunities for hiking and outdoor recreation. It is particularly well-known for its winter sports tradition, especially ski jumping, with the local hills serving as a regional training center. Geographically, it is notable as the source of the Volme and Agger rivers. Economically, Meinerzhagen has transitioned from an agricultural community to a modern industrial center, with a strong focus on metal processing, toolmaking, and plastics technology. The town's history is closely linked to local estates and the industrial heritage of the region. Notable landmarks include the historic Jesus Christ Church and the 'Villa im Park.' Its direct access to the A45 motorway makes it an attractive location for commuters heading towards the Ruhr area or Frankfurt.
