Lengerich is situated on the southern slopes of the Teutoburg Forest in northern Westphalia, acting as the economic heart of the Tecklenburger Land. The town's industrial legacy is primarily defined by limestone and cement production; the massive quarries in the vicinity remain a dominant feature of the local landscape. Architecturally, the town is noted for the Stadtkirche (City Church) and the "Römer," a medieval gatehouse that serves as a landmark. Geographically, Lengerich is a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts, as the famous Hermannsweg hiking trail passes directly through its territory. Today, its economy is robust and diversified, featuring not only building materials but also high-tech mechanical engineering and packaging technology (e.g., Windmöller & Hölscher). As a regional center, it provides vital services and education for the surrounding rural area. The town is also home to a unique Sculpture Park, which integrates contemporary art into the natural surroundings.
