Highlights of 2026

Where the Lower Rhine region and the Ruhr area meet lies the multifaceted town of Kamp-Lintfort, which fascinatingly combines spiritual tranquility with a heavy industrial past. The city's absolute flagship attraction is Kamp Abbey (Kloster Kamp), a former Cistercian monastery dating back to the 12th century. The magnificent terraced garden in particular, which was reconstructed according to historical models, exudes an almost Mediterranean flair and is often referred to as the "Sanssouci of the Lower Rhine." A completely different chapter of the town's history is told by the former Friedrich Heinrich colliery, which shaped the community through coal mining for over 100 years. This extensive site hosted the state horticultural show in 2020, resulting in the creation of today's Zechenpark, featuring spacious green areas, broad promenades, and a petting zoo. A visit to the training mine (Lehrstollen) impressively conveys how tough underground labor used to be. Those who enjoy the fresh air will also find wonderful hiking routes along the nearby Pandelbach stream or in the vast Leucht forest.
