Beckum is a city defined by its geological wealth and its animated folk traditions. Located in the southeastern part of the Münsterland, it sits on vast deposits of limestone which fueled the rise of the global cement industry in the 19th century. In 1872, the region's first cement plant opened its doors here, sparking a period of rapid growth that continues to shape the local economy. Today, Beckum is not only a site of ongoing production but also a model for industrial reclamation, with former quarries transformed into lush recreational areas like the Phoenix Activity Park. Culturally, the city is a bastion of Westphalian carnival celebrations, boasting a history of festivities that dates back centuries. The town center is home to a magnificent 15th-century town hall, a testament to Beckum's historic role as a merchant city in the Hanseatic League. Its strategic position along the A2 highway makes it a key logistics and manufacturing hub in modern North Rhine-Westphalia.
