Water temperature…
Malchin is set among the rolling hills of "Mecklenburg Switzerland", strategically located on the Peene River between Lake Malchin and Lake Kummerow. This location made the town an important trading hub as early as the Middle Ages. Brick Gothic architecture characterizes the center: the three-aisled parish church of St. John from the 15th century stands out with its massive tower, visible from afar, marking the center of the regularly laid-out street grid. Remains of the old town fortifications are still preserved in the form of two massive town gates, the Steintor and the Kalensches Tor. Today, the town is a quiet starting point for nature vacationers. The small natural harbor on the Peene attracts paddlers and recreational boaters who want to explore the species-rich river valley. The rural surroundings are crisscrossed by stately manor houses and old tree-lined avenues, which are convenient for extended cycling tours through the local nature park.
