The town of Hagenow is located in the west of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and has a history spanning over 800 years, closely linked to the development of the Griese Gegend region. The first documentary mention occurred between 1190 and 1195. During the Middle Ages, the settlement evolved into a typical farming town, a structure still recognizable in the town center today. A decisive turning point was the connection to the Berlin-Hamburg railway line in 1846, which transformed Hagenow into a significant transport hub and fostered industrial growth, particularly in food processing. Architecturally, the town impresses with its cohesive ensemble of half-timbered houses along Lange Straße. The Old Town Hall and the neo-Gothic St. Mary's Church are particularly worth seeing. Today, Hagenow combines its historical identity with modern quality of life, serving as a regional center between Schwerin and the Hamburg metropolitan region.
