💡 Tips

  • After arriving at the harbour, the colourful island railway takes you to the village. The ride is included in the ferry ticket and has the first beautiful views.
  • Rent a bicycle. It is the best way to explore the more remote parts of the island, such as the eastern end or the Pirolatal valley.
  • Climb the water tower, the island's landmark. From the viewing platform, you have a magnificent 360-degree view over the island and the sea.
  • Don't miss a traditional East Frisian tea ceremony with Kluntje (rock sugar) and cream. Many cafés offer this cozy tradition.
  • Pay attention to the numbered beach sections. This will help you to easily find your beach chair (Strandkorb) or your spot on the extensive beach.

Take a longer hike or bike tour to the uninhabited eastern end of the island. Here you will find pure nature, solitude, and maybe even seals on a sandbank.

Langeoog, the 'Long Island,' is a true natural gem on the Lower Saxon North Sea coast. Immediately after arriving by ferry, the colorful island railway takes guests into the lively heart of the village. The island's landmark is the water tower built in 1909, whose observation platform has a wide view over the village, dunes, and the Wadden Sea. A 14-kilometer natural sandy beach provides plenty of space for sports and relaxation. Also special is the 'Pirolatal' valley, a hollow in the dunes named after the rare golden oriole bird. In the east of the island lies the 'Ostende,' home to a large seal colony that can be observed during hikes. Culturally, Langeoog is closely linked to Lale Andersen, the singer of the world hit 'Lili Marleen,' who is buried here. The island is completely car-free, significantly enhancing air quality and general peace. Cozy restaurants and cafes round out the tourist experience.
