The town is situated at the foot of the Wurmberg, which, at over 970 meters, is the highest peak in the state. During the winter, the area acts as a magnet for skiers, snowboarders, and tobogganists, who can easily access the snow-sure slopes via the modern Wurmberg cable car. A major local highlight is the indoor ice stadium right in the town center, ensuring ice skating fun regardless of the weather outside. However, Braunlage remains highly popular in the summer as well. An extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails leads deep into the untamed, dense forests of the Harz mountains. Adrenaline junkies can test their skills on the steep downhill tracks of the Wurmberg bike park or race down the mountain trails on giant-wheeled "monster scooters." The beautifully maintained spa park, featuring an idyllic pond, provides an excellent setting to relax and breathe in the crisp mountain air.
