- The Rehberger Graben is a historic waterway, providing a well-suited path for an easy, almost level hike with beautiful scenery.
🍽 Food
A strong-smelling sour milk cheese, often served with lard, onions, and bread. An authentic specialty for the brave.
After a hike, a schnitzel or a bratwurst with fried potatoes tastes especially good in one of the town's rustic inns.
Ask for a local herbal schnapps in a restaurant to round off a meal in the traditional Harz style.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
In the shops around the Samson Pit, you'll find souvenirs related to the town's mining past, from minerals to small miner figurines.
As elsewhere in the Harz, you will also find shops here selling traditional wood carvings and other handicraft products.
The town's spa park is a quiet, green space with a small pond, good for relaxing.
The walk along this old waterway is an oasis of calm and takes you through beautiful forests.
The short climb up the Glockenberg hill is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view over the mountain town and the surrounding landscape.
Water temperature…
Sankt Andreasberg is a pleasant mountain town in the Harz National Park, known for its steep streets and colorful wooden houses. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Upper Harz Water Management System,' the town features deep insights into regional mining history, particularly in the Samson Pit, which houses one of the last functional wire-rope man engines in the world. Due to low light pollution, the city is also home to a significant observatory, providing visitors with fascinating views of the universe. In summer, the 550-meter-long summer toboggan run and the high ropes course attract adrenaline seekers. In winter, the place transforms into a Mecca for winter sports enthusiasts with numerous slopes at Matthias-Schmidt-Berg and Sonnenberg. The surroundings are characterized by blooming mountain meadows, celebrated in June at the traditional meadow blossom festival. Culinarilly, one should try the Harzer Roller cheese. The town is well accessible by car via winding mountain roads.
