Bad Sachsa is a prestigious health resort in the Göttingen district of Lower Saxony, positioned on the sun-drenched southern slopes of the Harz Mountains. It rose to prominence in the late 19th century as a luxury retreat, leaving behind a heritage of exquisite Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) villas that still grace the town. The town holds the title of 'Heilklimatischer Kurort' due to its exceptionally pure mountain air. For sports enthusiasts, the Ravensberg mountain provides a variety of downhill and cross-country skiing options in winter, while becoming a hiking paradise in summer. Bad Sachsa also features the 'Salztal-Paradies', a major leisure complex with thermal pools and an indoor ice rink. Historically, it is known for the tragic stay of the 'Children of July 20th', descendants of the anti-Nazi resistance. Today, its economy is a healthy mix of tourism, healthcare through specialized sanatoriums, and local trade, all surrounded by the dense, ancient forests of the South Harz Nature Park.
