- Parking in the historic old town is very limited; it is best to use the car parks on the outskirts or near the train station.
- Look for a broom (Strauß) hanging on houses, which signals that a vintner's seasonal wine tavern is currently open.
- The Main river cycle path runs just below the town and is good for extensive bike tours towards Mainz or Frankfurt.

Hochheim am Main is located in the Main-Taunus district and represents the easternmost boundary of the prestigious Rheingau wine region. The town of 18,000 residents sits on an elevation, with vineyards sloping gently downward to the banks of the Main river. The town achieved historical fame through the British term Hock for Rhine wine, originating from a visit by Queen Victoria in 1845; the Queen Victoria Monument, situated directly among the vines, still commemorates this royal event. The historic old town features meticulously restored half-timbered houses, the old town hall, and the late-baroque St. Peter and Paul church, which contains frescoes painted by regional artists. Every November, the town transforms to host the Hochheimer Markt. Documented since 1484, this massive autumn event combines an agricultural machinery exhibition, a livestock market, and a folk festival, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors. The seasonal wine taverns located within historic estate courtyards offer opportunities to taste the local Riesling and Pinot Noir wines.
