Linden was established in 1977 during the Hessian territorial reform through the merger of the municipalities of Großen-Linden and Leihgestern. Located south of Gießen, the town serves as a link between the university city and the rural Wetterau district. Großen-Linden features a long history, having been mentioned as early as the 8th century in the Lorsch Codex. The Protestant Martinskirche in Großen-Linden is a significant architectural monument of Romanesque origin. Today, Linden is a dynamic economic hub, particularly shaped by IT companies and logistics firms that profit from the excellent connections to the Gießen South motorway junction. Beyond its economic strength, Linden provides a high quality of life for commuters and families, featuring modern sports facilities and the nearby municipal forest for recreation.
