Berlin Cathedral (Germany)

Weather…

The Berlin Cathedral on Museum Island is the largest Protestant church in Germany and a significant example of Neo-Baroque architecture. The current building was constructed between 1894 and 1905 according to plans by Julius Raschdorff, on the site of a smaller neoclassical cathedral. With its imposing dome, the cathedral shapes the skyline of Berlin's Mitte district and serves as the burial place for the House of Hohenzollern. In the Hohenzollern Crypt beneath the cathedral, nearly 100 members of the Prussian ruling family from five centuries are interred. The interior impresses with magnificent mosaics, the Sauer organ with over 7,000 pipes, and the grand baptismal and matrimonial chapel. During World War II, the building was heavily damaged by aerial bombs, and the dome collapsed. The extensive restoration took decades and was largely completed only in 1993. Visitors can climb to the dome and enjoy a far-reaching panoramic view of the city.
