Reit im Winkl is located in a high valley on the border with Tyrol at an altitude of 696 meters. The village is famous for its snow reliability, favored by its geographical position in an Alpine basin. The village scene is characterized by magnificent Bavarian farmhouses with wooden balconies and lush floral decorations, making it one of the most beautiful villages in Bavaria. During the winter season, the town is a paradise for cross-country skiers, with an extensive network of trails directly at the village and on the Winklmoos-Alm. The Winklmoos-Alm was also the home of ski legend Rosi Mittermaier. The Steinplatte ski area gives cross-border skiing enjoyment into Austria. In summer, the region transforms into a first-class hiking area with certified premium trails such as 'Almgenuss'. Visitors should see the Baroque parish church of St. Pancratius and the local history museum to learn more about the history of timber transport and smuggling in the border region. Local gastronomy has hearty Alpine delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn and cheese dumplings. Arrival is usually via the A8 motorway and then via the German Alpine Road, which leads through spectacular mountain scenery.
