Idyllically situated on the northern edge of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald), Nagold is a lively and pleasant town that features a first-rate blend of rich history, urban flair, and spectacular natural surroundings. The heart of the town is its beautifully restored historic center, where magnificent 17th-century half-timbered houses, narrow winding streets, and welcoming squares create a pretty atmosphere. Majestically perched high above the rooftops are the ruins of Hohennagold Castle, one of the region’s most impressive landmarks. A short but rewarding hike up to the castle provides visitors with sweeping panoramic views over the deep Nagold River valley and the sprawling dark green canopy of the Black Forest. History buffs will be fascinated by the Krautbühl Celtic burial mound, a remarkable site that bears witness to the area's ancient and significant settlement. The Nagold and Waldach rivers, which elegantly merge within the town limits, define the relaxing urban landscape and offer beautifully landscaped riverside promenades great for leisurely walks.
