Faraba Banta is located in the West Coast Region of The Gambia, approximately 20 kilometers east of Brikama. The settlement has gained significant national importance as the site of the University of The Gambia's new main campus, which was officially inaugurated in 2023. Historically, the area was predominantly agricultural, with the cultivation of groundnuts and millet serving as the primary livelihoods for its residents. Geologically, the region is noted for its sandstone deposits, the mining of which led to historical social tensions and environmental debates in 2018. Its strategic location along the South Bank Road provides essential connectivity to the country's economic and urban centers. Today, Faraba Banta is transitioning from a traditional rural village into a pivotal educational hub, hosting thousands of students and stimulating local infrastructure and commercial development.
