Getting there

The route usually begins inland from the villages on the southern coast of Ua Huka. Local tracks, often traversed by horses or 4x4s, lead toward the central mountainous region where the hike starts.

Optimal hiking conditions occur during the drier season from May to November. During the rainy season, the trails quickly turn into thick mud, making the steep climbs both exhausting and dangerous.

Expect a mixture of dense forests, wide plateaus frequented by wild horses, and steep rocky inclines near the top. The path is often overgrown and uneven, requiring constant attention to your footing.
