Plessé is an expansive rural commune in the Loire-Atlantique department of the Pays de la Loire region. Historically part of the Duchy of Brittany, the town preserves a strong cultural link to Breton heritage. The geography of Plessé is most notably characterized by the Forest of Gâvre, the only state forest in the department and once a private hunting ground for Breton royalty. This woodland provides an extensive network of trails for hiking and equestrian activities, serving as a vital sanctuary for regional wildlife. The municipality consists of a main village center surrounded by numerous hamlets, reflecting its traditional agricultural roots. Recently, Plessé has gained recognition as a pioneer in ecological farming and sustainable living, hosting various community-led environmental projects.
