Le Pouliguen is an elegant seaside resort in the Loire-Atlantique department, located in the Pays de la Loire region of western France. Situated on the Guérande Peninsula, it marks the western end of the famous bay it shares with La Baule. Historically a key port for the transportation of salt from the nearby marshes, Le Pouliguen has successfully transitioned into a premier sailing and tourist destination while maintaining its traditional Breton charm. The bustling marina is the centerpiece of the town, surrounded by a promenade filled with boutiques and seafood restaurants. Beyond the harbor lies the 'Côte Sauvage' (Wild Coast), characterized by rugged cliffs, sea caves, and secluded coves that contrast with the sandy beaches nearby. The town's architecture features a mix of historic stone buildings in the old quarter and grand seaside villas dating from the 19th-century tourism boom. With its scenic coastal paths, spirited local markets, and proximity to the regional nature park of Brière, Le Pouliguen provides a great blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage for residents and visitors alike.
