Beaufort-en-Vallée is a historic town located in the Maine-et-Loire department, within the fertile Authion valley. Historically, it served as a vital stronghold for the Counts of Anjou, and the remaining towers of its 13th-century castle still dominate the local skyline. The town's development was closely tied to its agricultural surroundings, becoming a major center for hemp production and seed trade during the 18th and 19th centuries. The architecture is characterized by the use of tuffeau stone, a hallmark of the Loire Valley style. A significant cultural landmark is the Joseph-Denais Museum, established at the turn of the 20th century. It is renowned as a 'Cabinet of Curiosities,' housing an extraordinary variety of artifacts collected from around the world. Today, Beaufort-en-Vallée maintains its rural charm while acting as a gateway to the Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park, offering a blend of heritage, nature, and dynamic local events.
