Le Passage is a thriving commune in the Lot-et-Garonne department, effectively serving as a gateway to the city of Agen. Positioned on the left bank of the Garonne River, its history is deeply intertwined with the river's flows and the ferry service that once defined its name. A landmark of exceptional engineering is the Agen Canal Bridge (Pont-Canal), which carries the Canal latéral à la Garonne across the river; it remains one of the longest masonry canal bridges in Europe. During the 19th century, Le Passage played a critical role in the logistics of the regional agriculture, most notably in the distribution of the famous Agen prunes. The town has evolved from a rural riverside settlement into a modern urban area with significant commercial zones and residential neighborhoods. It features a variety of public amenities, including the Roseraie du Passage, a beautiful rose garden. With its strategic location near major transport routes and the Agen-La Garenne airport, Le Passage continues to be a vital component of the middle Garonne valley's economic landscape.
