Mennecy, located in the Essonne department south of Paris, is a town with a rich aristocratic and industrial history. Its development is inseparably linked to the de Neufville de Villeroy family, who built a magnificent castle here in the 16th century. Although the castle has largely disappeared today, the Parc de Villeroy remains one of the most beautiful green spaces in the region. It is famous for its monumental avenue of giant redwoods (Séquoias géants), which is one of the longest in Europe. In the 18th century, the town gained international recognition through the 'Manufacture de Porcelaine de Mennecy-Villeroy'. Under the protection of the Duke of Villeroy, this factory produced exquisite soft-paste porcelain, which is highly sought after by collectors worldwide today. Geographically, Mennecy benefits from its proximity to the Essonne river and the surrounding wetlands, which provide an ecological sanctuary. The neo-Gothic church of Saint-Pierre, built on 13th-century foundations, is the spiritual heart of the town. Today, Mennecy combines the charm of a small historic town with the modern infrastructure of a commuter community in the Paris metropolitan area.
