Bondoufle is situated in the southern suburbs of Paris, within the Essonne department. Its transformation from a rural hamlet to a key urban player began in earnest during the 1970s as part of the Évry 'New Town' (Ville Nouvelle) initiative. This planned expansion brought about a unique urban layout where residential neighborhoods are integrated with expansive green belts and industrial zones. A major landmark of the city is the Robert-Bobin Stadium, an 18,000-seat arena that serves as a regional hub for athletics and soccer. Economically, Bondoufle is a vital center for logistics, housing large distribution centers for major French retailers due to its direct access to the N104 (Francilienne) beltway. Despite its industrial importance, the city maintains a high standard of living with over 100 hectares of public parks and woods. The town hall area retains a touch of historic charm, but most of the city reflects 20th and 21st-century architectural styles, catering to a growing population that seeks proximity to Paris combined with modern amenities and recreational facilities.
