Located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, Le Raincy contrasts sharply with its neighboring northeastern suburbs due to its elegant architecture and broad, tree-lined avenues. Because of its large concentration of late 19th-century bourgeois villas, locals frequently refer to the municipality as the “little Neuilly of the 93”. The undisputed architectural masterpiece of the town is the Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolation, completed in 1923 by the visionary architect Auguste Perret. It is historically significant as the first church in the world to be constructed entirely out of exposed reinforced concrete. Featuring massive walls of abstract stained glass designed by Marguerite Huré, the building has rightfully earned the nickname “the Sainte-Chapelle of concrete”. The historical layout of the town originates from a vast castle park owned by the Orléans family, which was subdivided into residential plots following the French Revolution. Today, walking through the former estate grounds reveals ornate private mansions and remnants of old guard pavilions. The Avenue de la Résistance acts as the bustling commercial spine, lined with traditional artisan bakeries, high-end delicatessens, and independent boutiques. Le Raincy provides a quiet, upscale residential atmosphere while offering direct commuter access to central Paris in under 25 minutes via the RER E railway line.
