Rosny-sous-Bois is a prominent commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Historically a rural village known for its vineyards and gypsum quarries, it underwent significant transformation during the 19th and 20th centuries. A major landmark is the Fort de Rosny, built between 1840 and 1846 as part of the Thiers fortifications to defend the capital. Today, the fort serves as a key site for national security services, including the Gendarmerie's information center. The city's economy is anchored by the Rosny 2 shopping center, one of the largest retail hubs in the Île-de-France region, which provides thousands of jobs. Rosny-sous-Bois benefits from an exceptional transport network, with access to RER lines E and A, as well as the A3 and A86 motorways. The local government emphasizes a balance between urban development and environmental preservation, maintaining several public parks and promoting sustainable housing projects to accommodate its growing population.
