Arnouville is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department of France, situated in the northern suburbs of Paris. Formerly known as Arnouville-lès-Gonesse, the town's history is deeply connected to the 18th-century Enlightenment and the vision of Jean-Baptiste de Machault d'Arnouville, a high-ranking minister under Louis XV. Machault intended to build a magnificent château and a model city centered around a circular square, of which only part was realized. The château still exists today, serving as a landmark of the town's aristocratic past. The 20th century transformed Arnouville into a dense residential suburb, fueled by the expansion of the railway. A defining characteristic of modern Arnouville is its significant Armenian population, which settled here after World War I; the town is home to the Armenian Apostolic Church of Saint James and numerous cultural associations. Geographically, it sits in the valley of the Petit Rosne stream. The municipality's proximity to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport and its connection via the RER D rail line make it an important residential hub in the Greater Paris area, balancing its historical roots with a diverse, contemporary social fabric.
