Villiers-le-Bel is a French commune located in the Val-d'Oise department, in the Île-de-France region, approximately 18 kilometers north of the center of Paris. The town's history is deeply rooted in the past, with archaeological findings suggesting significant activity during the Gallo-Roman period, particularly in pottery production. The name 'Bel' is thought to originate from the Le Bel family, who were prominent landowners in the area during the Middle Ages. The urban landscape of Villiers-le-Bel is characterized by a striking contrast between the historic village core, home to the 13th-century Saint-Didier church, and the large-scale housing developments constructed during the 1950s and 1960s to accommodate the post-war population boom. Today, the city is a bustling, multicultural hub that benefits significantly from its proximity to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and its integration into the Paris public transport network. Urban renewal projects have recently focused on enhancing green spaces and improving community facilities for its diverse population. The local economy is largely driven by the service sector, benefiting from the city's strategic position within the Greater Paris metropolitan area.
