Roye is located in Picardy, northern France, and serves as the primary town of the Santerre plain. This region is world-renowned for its exceptionally fertile soil, which has established Roye as a hub for the agro-industrial sector, particularly sugar production. The town's history was heavily impacted by the World Wars of the 20th century, as its strategic position on the road to Paris led to severe destruction. The subsequent reconstruction gave Roye a functional urban landscape while preserving historic treasures like the Saint-Pierre church, famous for its magnificent stained glass, and remnants of ancient fortifications. Today, Roye is a vital logistics center on the A1 motorway, the main link between Paris and Lille. The city balances industrial energy with a deep connection to Picardy's culture and gastronomy, where local markets remain central to social life.
