Drancy is a city in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, northeast of Paris. Its history is inseparably linked to one of the darkest chapters of French history: the Drancy transit camp. During the German occupation in World War II, the Cité de la Muette housing complex served as the central internment camp for Jews before they were deported to extermination camps. Today, this site houses a major national memorial (Shoah Memorial), which commemorates the fate of the more than 60,000 people deported from here. Beyond its commemorative culture, Drancy is now an animated, multicultural city that is steadily modernizing through urban renewal projects. The Ladoucette Castle and its extensive park form the green and cultural heart of the community, serving as a venue for exhibitions and recreation. The city is characterized by dense urban development but has numerous schools and community facilities to meet the needs of its growing population.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
