Achicourt is a historic municipality in northern France, serving as a vital residential wing of the Arras metropolitan area. Its history is deeply marked by its position during World War I; situated at the heart of the Artois front, the village was obliterated by 1918. The subsequent reconstruction phase gave the town its current architectural unity, featuring the classic red-brick facades of the Hauts-de-France region. The town's pride is the Moulin Hacart, a magnificent windmill that was faithfully rebuilt in the late 20th century to honor the region's milling heritage. Today, Achicourt is a sought-after community for families and professionals working in Arras, offering a peaceful environment with modern amenities. It is crossed by the Crinchon river, and its local government is noted for its commitment to environmental sustainability and 'flowering city' initiatives. The town maintains several memorial sites that pay tribute to the soldiers of various nationalities who fought on its soil during the Great War.
