Plougastel-Daoulas is situated on a peninsula in the Bay of Brest within the Finistère department. The town is globally famous for its strawberry production, introduced in the 18th century by botanist Amédée-François Frézier, who brought plants from Chile. This agricultural tradition continues to define the landscape and local economy today. Another standout feature is its religious heritage, specifically the monumental Calvary of Plougastel, erected between 1602 and 1604 to mark the end of a plague epidemic. Featuring over 180 carved figures, it is considered one of Brittany's most significant artistic works. Geographically, the town provides a diverse coastline with numerous small harbors and oyster beds. Local culture is celebrated at the Strawberry Museum and through traditional festivals where residents often wear spirited folk costumes. Plougastel-Daoulas bridges maritime life with fertile farmland and serves as a key component of the Brest metropolitan area.
