Locronan (France)

Weather…

Locronan, situated in Finistère, is regarded as an architectural jewel of Brittany. The village owed its prosperity in the 15th and 16th centuries to the production of high-quality sailcloth, which even supplied the French Navy. The magnificent houses around the market square, built from bluish-grey granite, still bear witness to this golden era. The village center is car-free, making the time travel back to the Middle Ages complete. Saint-Ronan Church, with its imposing facade and ornate stained glass windows, is the heart of the village. Every six years, the 'Grand Troménie' takes place here, one of Brittany's most significant religious processions, following a 12-kilometer circular path. Due to its authentic backdrop, Locronan has served as a filming location for numerous movie productions. Visitors should definitely try the 'Kouign-Amann,' a traditional Breton butter cake baked in local bakeries according to old recipes. The surrounding area also has wonderful viewpoints overlooking the Bay of Douarnenez.
