Water temperature…
Lake Bourget (Lac du Bourget) is a majestic body of water surrounded by the steep peaks of the Jura and the Alps in the Savoie region. Its eastern shore is dominated by Aix-les-Bains, a historic thermal spa town that gained fame during the Belle Époque as a retreat for royalty and writers like Lamartine. The town still is home to Roman ruins, elegant casinos, and grand hotels. Across the lake, on the wilder western shore, lies the Cistercian Hautecombe Abbey, the traditional burial place of the House of Savoy. The lake gives a wide range of activities, from sailing and rowing to swimming in its relatively warm waters. The surrounding mountains, such as the Mont Revard, provide excellent hiking trails and panoramic viewpoints over the turquoise water. Local gastronomy includes lake fish like lavaret and the famous wines of Savoie. The area is well-connected by TGV from Paris and is a year-round destination, though summer is best for water sports and winter for nearby skiing.
