Jomala is the economic heart of the Åland Islands, surrounding the capital Mariehamn to the north and west. Despite modern growth, the municipality has retained its rural charm. Its most famous building is St. Olav's Church, often cited as the oldest stone church in Finland, dating back to the 13th century. Its massive stone architecture and hilltop location make it a prominent landmark. Nature lovers appreciate the Ramsholmen nature reserve, famous for its rich flora. In spring, the area transforms into a sea of rare wildflowers and wood anemones. Jomala also provides excellent opportunities for athletes, with modern sports facilities and well-developed bicycle paths leading to all parts of the island. Jomala also hosts important infrastructure points like Mariehamn Airport and large shopping centers. However, away from the main roads, you can find photogenic farms selling local specialties such as cheese and meats. Its proximity to the capital makes it a well-suited base for tourists exploring the archipelago. The best time to visit is from May to September. Access is extremely easy, as almost all roads from the ferry terminals in Mariehamn pass through Jomala. It is a place that perfectly combines modern amenities with the tranquility of Scandinavian nature.
